EXODUS 40

« Exodus 39 | Exodus 40 | Leviticus 1 »

The Tabernacle Erected
  40:1 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “On the first day of the first month you shall erect the tabernacle of the tent of meeting. 3 And you shall put in it the ark of the testimony, and you shall screen the ark with the veil. 4 And you shall bring in the table and arrange it, and you shall bring in the lampstand and set up its lamps. 5 And you shall put the golden altar for incense before the ark of the testimony, and set up the screen for the door of the tabernacle. 6 You shall set the altar of burnt offering before the door of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting, 7 and place the basin between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water in it. 8 And you shall set up the court all around, and hang up the screen for the gate of the court.

9 “Then you shall take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and all that is in it, and consecrate it and all its furniture, so that it may become holy. 10 You shall also anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and consecrate the altar, so that the altar may become most holy. 11 You shall also anoint the basin and its stand, and consecrate it. 12 Then you shall bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance of the tent of meeting and shall wash them with water 13 and put on Aaron the holy garments. And you shall anoint him and consecrate him, that he may serve me as priest. 14 You shall bring his sons also and put coats on them, 15 and anoint them, as you anointed their father, that they may serve me as priests. And their anointing shall admit them to a perpetual priesthood throughout their generations.”

16 This Moses did; according to all that the Lord commanded him, so he did. 17 In the first month in the second year, on the first day of the month, the tabernacle was erected. 18 Moses erected the tabernacle. He laid its bases, and set up its frames, and put in its poles, and raised up its pillars. 19 And he spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering of the tent over it, as the Lord had commanded Moses. 20 He took the testimony and put it into the ark, and put the poles on the ark and set the mercy seat above on the ark. 21 And he brought the ark into the tabernacle and set up the veil of the screen, and screened the ark of the testimony, as the Lord had commanded Moses. 22 He put the table in the tent of meeting, on the north side of the tabernacle, outside the veil, 23 and arranged the bread on it before the Lord, as the Lord had commanded Moses. 24 He put the lampstand in the tent of meeting, opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle, 25 and set up the lamps before the Lord, as the Lord had commanded Moses. 26 He put the golden altar in the tent of meeting before the veil, 27 and burned fragrant incense on it, as the Lord had commanded Moses. 28 He put in place the screen for the door of the tabernacle. 29 And he set the altar of burnt offering at the entrance of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting, and offered on it the burnt offering and the grain offering, as the Lord had commanded Moses. 30 He set the basin between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water in it for washing, 31 with which Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and their feet. 32 When they went into the tent of meeting, and when they approached the altar, they washed, as the Lord commanded Moses. 33 And he erected the court around the tabernacle and the altar, and set up the screen of the gate of the court. So Moses finished the work. The Glory of the Lord
34 Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. 35 And Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. 36 Throughout all their journeys, whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the people of Israel would set out. 37 But if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not set out till the day that it was taken up. 38 For the cloud of the Lord was on the tabernacle by day, and fire was in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel throughout all their journeys.

PSALM 37

« Psalm 36 | Psalm 37 | Psalm 38 »

He Will Not Forsake His Saints
Of David.
37:1
Fret not yourself because of evildoers;
be not envious of wrongdoers!
2
For they will soon fade like the grass
and wither like the green herb.

3
Trust in the Lord, and do good;
dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
4
Delight yourself in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

5
Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him, and he will act.
6
He will bring forth your righteousness as the light,
and your justice as the noonday.

7
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;
fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way,
over the man who carries out evil devices!

8
Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath!
Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil.
9
For the evildoers shall be cut off,
but those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land.

10
In just a little while, the wicked will be no more;
though you look carefully at his place, he will not be there.
11
But the meek shall inherit the land
and delight themselves in abundant peace.

12
The wicked plots against the righteous
and gnashes his teeth at him,
13
but the Lord laughs at the wicked,
for he sees that his day is coming.

14
The wicked draw the sword and bend their bows
to bring down the poor and needy,
to slay those whose way is upright;
15
their sword shall enter their own heart,
and their bows shall be broken.

16
Better is the little that the righteous has
than the abundance of many wicked.
17
For the arms of the wicked shall be broken,
but the Lord upholds the righteous.

18
The Lord knows the days of the blameless,
and their heritage will remain forever;
19
they are not put to shame in evil times;
in the days of famine they have abundance.

20
But the wicked will perish;
the enemies of the Lord are like the glory of the pastures;
they vanish—like smoke they vanish away.

21
The wicked borrows but does not pay back,
but the righteous is generous and gives;
22
for those blessed by the Lord shall inherit the land,
but those cursed by him shall be cut off.

23
The steps of a man are established by the Lord,
when he delights in his way;
24
though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong,
for the Lord upholds his hand.

25
I have been young, and now am old,
yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken
or his children begging for bread.
26
He is ever lending generously,
and his children become a blessing.

27
Turn away from evil and do good;
so shall you dwell forever.
28
For the Lord loves justice;
he will not forsake his saints.
They are preserved forever,
but the children of the wicked shall be cut off.
29
The righteous shall inherit the land
and dwell upon it forever.

30
The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom,
and his tongue speaks justice.
31
The law of his God is in his heart;
his steps do not slip.

32
The wicked watches for the righteous
and seeks to put him to death.
33
The Lord will not abandon him to his power
or let him be condemned when he is brought to trial.

34
Wait for the Lord and keep his way,
and he will exalt you to inherit the land;
you will look on when the wicked are cut off.

35
I have seen a wicked, ruthless man,
spreading himself like a green laurel tree.
36
But he passed away, and behold, he was no more;
though I sought him, he could not be found.

37
Mark the blameless and behold the upright,
for there is a future for the man of peace.
38
But transgressors shall be altogether destroyed;
the future of the wicked shall be cut off.

39
The salvation of the righteous is from the Lord;
he is their stronghold in the time of trouble.
40
The Lord helps them and delivers them;
he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
because they take refuge in him.

PROVERBS 2

« Proverbs 1 | Proverbs 2 | Proverbs 3 »

The Value of Wisdom
2:1
My son, if you receive my words
and treasure up my commandments with you,
2
making your ear attentive to wisdom
and inclining your heart to understanding;
3
yes, if you call out for insight
and raise your voice for understanding,
4
if you seek it like silver
and search for it as for hidden treasures,
5
then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
6
For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;
7
he stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
he is a shield to those who walk in integrity,
8
guarding the paths of justice
and watching over the way of his saints.
9
Then you will understand righteousness and justice
and equity, every good path;
10
for wisdom will come into your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;
11
discretion will watch over you,
understanding will guard you,
12
delivering you from the way of evil,
from men of perverted speech,
13
who forsake the paths of uprightness
to walk in the ways of darkness,
14
who rejoice in doing evil
and delight in the perverseness of evil,
15
men whose paths are crooked,
and who are devious in their ways.

16
So you will be delivered from the forbidden woman,
from the adulteress with her smooth words,
17
who forsakes the companion of her youth
and forgets the covenant of her God;
18
for her house sinks down to death,
and her paths to the departed;
19
none who go to her come back,
nor do they regain the paths of life.

20
So you will walk in the way of the good
and keep to the paths of the righteous.
21
For the upright will inhabit the land,
and those with integrity will remain in it,
22
but the wicked will be cut off from the land,
and the treacherous will be rooted out of it.
