In You Do I Take Refuge

A Shiggaion of David, which he sang to the Lord concerning the words of Cush, a Benjaminite.
7:1

O Lord my God, in you do I take refuge;

save me from all my pursuers and deliver me, 2

lest like a lion they tear my soul apart,

rending it in pieces, with none to deliver.
3

O Lord my God, if I have done this,

if there is wrong in my hands, 4

if I have repaid my friend with evil

or plundered my enemy without cause, 5

let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it,

and let him trample my life to the ground

and lay my glory in the dust. Selah
6

Arise, O Lord, in your anger;

lift yourself up against the fury of my enemies;

awake for me; you have appointed a judgment. 7

Let the assembly of the peoples be gathered about you;

over it return on high.
8

The Lord judges the peoples;

judge me, O Lord, according to my righteousness

and according to the integrity that is in me. 9

Oh, let the evil of the wicked come to an end,

and may you establish the righteous—

you who test the minds and hearts,

O righteous God! 10

My shield is with God,

who saves the upright in heart. 11

God is a righteous judge,

and a God who feels indignation every day.
12

If a man does not repent, God will whet his sword;

he has bent and readied his bow; 13

he has prepared for him his deadly weapons,

making his arrows fiery shafts. 14

Behold, the wicked man conceives evil

and is pregnant with mischief

and gives birth to lies. 15

He makes a pit, digging it out,

and falls into the hole that he has made. 16

His mischief returns upon his own head,

and on his own skull his violence descends.

I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness,

and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High. How Majestic Is Your Name

8:1

O Lord, our Lord,

how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory above the heavens. 2

Out of the mouth of babies and infants,

you have established strength because of your foes,

to still the enemy and the avenger.
3

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, 4

what is man that you are mindful of him,

and the son of man that you care for him?
5

Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings

and crowned him with glory and honor. 6

You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;

you have put all things under his feet, 7

all sheep and oxen,

and also the beasts of the field, 8

the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,

whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

O Lord, our Lord,

how majestic is your name in all the earth!

The Scroll and the Lamb

5:1 Then I saw in the right hand of him who was seated on the throne a scroll written within and on the back, sealed with seven seals. 2 And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?” 3 And no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it, 4 and I began to weep loudly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it. 5 And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.”
6 And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. 7 And he went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who was seated on the throne. 8 And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. 9 And they sang a new song, saying,

“Worthy are you to take the scroll

and to open its seals,

for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God

from every tribe and language and people and nation, 10

and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God,

and they shall reign on the earth.” 11 Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, 12 saying with a loud voice,

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain,

to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might

and honor and glory and blessing!” 13 And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying,

“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb

be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” 14 And the four living creatures said, “Amen!” and the elders fell down and worshiped.
