For your love is better than wine; 3

your anointing oils are fragrant;

your name is oil poured out;

therefore virgins love you.

Draw me after you; let us run.

I am very dark, but lovely,

O daughters of Jerusalem,

like the tents of Kedar,

Tell me, you whom my soul loves,

where you pasture your flock,

where you make it lie down at noon;

for why should I be like one who veils herself

O most beautiful among women,

follow in the tracks of the flock,

and pasture your young goats

beside the shepherds’ tents.

I compare you, my love,

to a mare among Pharaoh’s chariots. 10

Your cheeks are lovely with ornaments,

your neck with strings of jewels. Others11

We will make for you ornaments of gold,

studded with silver. She12

While the king was on his couch,

my nard gave forth its fragrance. 13

My beloved is to me a sachet of myrrh

that lies between my breasts. 14

My beloved is to me a cluster of henna blossoms

in the vineyards of Engedi. He15

Behold, you are beautiful, my love;

I am a rose of Sharon,

a lily of the valleys. He2

With great delight I sat in his shadow,

by the gazelles or the does of the field,

The voice of my beloved!

Behold, he comes,

leaping over the mountains,

bounding over the hills. 9

My beloved is like a gazelle

or a young stag.

Behold, there he stands

behind our wall,

gazing through the windows,

looking through the lattice. 10

My beloved speaks and says to me:

“Arise, my love, my beautiful one,

and come away, 11

for behold, the winter is past;

the rain is over and gone. 12

The flowers appear on the earth,

the time of singing has come,

and the voice of the turtledove

is heard in our land. 13

The fig tree ripens its figs,

and the vines are in blossom;

they give forth fragrance.

Arise, my love, my beautiful one,

and come away. 14

O my dove, in the clefts of the rock,

in the crannies of the cliff,

let me see your face,

let me hear your voice,

for your voice is sweet,

and your face is lovely. 15

Catch the foxes for us,

the little foxes

that spoil the vineyards,

for our vineyards are in blossom.”

My beloved is mine, and I am his;

he grazes among the lilies. 17

Until the day breathes

and the shadows flee,

turn, my beloved, be like a gazelle

by the gazelles or the does of the field,

What is that coming up from the wilderness

like columns of smoke,

perfumed with myrrh and frankincense,

with all the fragrant powders of a merchant? 7

Behold, it is the litter of Solomon!

Around it are sixty mighty men,

some of the mighty men of Israel, 8

all of them wearing swords

and expert in war,

each with his sword at his thigh,

against terror by night. 9

King Solomon made himself a carriage

from the wood of Lebanon. 10

He made its posts of silver,

its back of gold, its seat of purple;

its interior was inlaid with love

by the daughters of Jerusalem. 11

Go out, O daughters of Zion,

and look upon King Solomon,

with the crown with which his mother crowned him

on the day of his wedding,

on the day of the gladness of his heart.

Give the King Your JusticeOf Solomon.
72:1

Give the king your justice, O God,

and your righteousness to the royal son! 2

May he judge your people with righteousness,

and your poor with justice! 3

Let the mountains bear prosperity for the people,

and the hills, in righteousness! 4

May he defend the cause of the poor of the people,

give deliverance to the children of the needy,

and crush the oppressor!
5

May they fear you while the sun endures,

and as long as the moon, throughout all generations! 6

May he be like rain that falls on the mown grass,

like showers that water the earth! 7

In his days may the righteous flourish,

and peace abound, till the moon be no more!
8

May he have dominion from sea to sea,

and from the River to the ends of the earth! 9

May desert tribes bow down before him,

and his enemies lick the dust! 10

May the kings of Tarshish and of the coastlands

render him tribute;

may the kings of Sheba and Seba

bring gifts! 11

May all kings fall down before him,

all nations serve him!
12

For he delivers the needy when he calls,

the poor and him who has no helper. 13

He has pity on the weak and the needy,

and saves the lives of the needy. 14

From oppression and violence he redeems their life,

and precious is their blood in his sight.
15

Long may he live;

may gold of Sheba be given to him!

May prayer be made for him continually,

and blessings invoked for him all the day! 16

May there be abundance of grain in the land;

on the tops of the mountains may it wave;

may its fruit be like Lebanon;

and may people blossom in the cities

like the grass of the field! 17

May his name endure forever,

his fame continue as long as the sun!

May people be blessed in him,

all nations call him blessed!
18

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,

who alone does wondrous things. 19

Blessed be his glorious name forever;

may the whole earth be filled with his glory!Amen and Amen!

The Day of the Lord  5:1 Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you. 2 For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3 While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. 4 But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief. 5 For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. 6 So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night. 8 But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. 9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. 11 Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. Final Instructions and Benediction12 We ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, 13 and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves. 14 And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all. 15 See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone. 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies, 21 but test everything; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil.
    23 Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.
    25 Brothers, pray for us.
    26 Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.
    27 I put you under oath before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers.
    28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
